Still Moving
Duration: 7 Minutes, 30 Seconds
Still Moving is a two-movement fantasy for flute and alto saxophone on simple ideas used melodically and structurally in both movements. While complete opposites in mood, texture, and overt melodic identity, the two movements, Still and Moving, are connected as they are in the title: While Still is based on the simple notion of stillness through sustained overlapping melodic semitones, Moving uses the semitone as a more structural device – as if Still were indeed Moving. This is all rather abstract, however, and perhaps unimportant. More simply stated, Still Moving consists of two dramatically contrasting movements for flute and alto saxophone.
