Cradle Song
Cradle Song is a setting of Thomas Dekker’s 1603 poem, Golden Slumbers for voice and piano. It was composed in 1997 to celebrate the birth of my beautiful daughter, Emily.
Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise.
Sleep, pretty baby, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you;
Sleep, pretty baby, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
