I am thrilled to announce that the brand new a cappella version of Stella Nuova has won the KANTOS Christmas Carol Competition 2024.
In its original form, Stella Nuova is the final movement of Laude!, my collaboration with Garth Bardsley for chorus and orchestra, which premiered in 2014. The entire work is a group of three settings of songs devoted to the Christmas season from the 13th century Laudario di Cortona. Garth’s words supplement the original 13th century Italian text with beautiful and powerful thoughts of hope and reflection. I have created this a cappella version of Stella Nuova in celebration of the 10th anniversary of its premiere.
Kantos is a brilliant trailblazing vocal ensemble, based in the North of England, who perform at the cutting edge of the creative scene, performing music by everyone from 11th Century visionary saints to genre-bending, experimental rock stars.
Garth and I are very excited that Kantos will perform the world premiere of this new version of Stella Nuova for their concert “Carols from Kantos” in The Stoller Hall in Manchester, UK, on Saturday, 7 December, 2024 at 7:30 PM GMT.
