21 years ago this month, Timothy McAllister and Alan Woy premiered my Duo Sonata at The Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.
Since then, the work has received well over 500 performances (that I know of) around the world by musicians ranging from seasoned professionals to emerging virtuosos. Duo Sonata is featured on 7 commercial recordings and is recently the subject of a Masters Thesis (An Analysis and Performance Guide of Gregory Wanamaker’s Duo Sonata for Bb Clarinet and Alto Saxophone) at Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan.
As of today, the most recent performance took place in Diepholz, Germany at the final concert of their Jugend Musiziert Competition on 19 February 2023. Clarinetist Bianca Neumann and Vanessa Delekat took first prize with their stellar performance of this piece at this regional competition, and will advance to the Federal Youth Music Competition in Zwickau in May and June of this year.
I am very proud of the success of my Duo Sonata, and am incredibly grateful for the support of all the musicians who have performed the piece over the past 21 years.
