Every year around this time, I post this movement from Laude! that I composed with my brilliant friend and collaborator Garth Bardsley, whose words remind me that there is always hope.
2020 was an especially difficult year for all of us because of the surging pandemic and the never-ending social and political unrest we see in person, via social media, and in the news.
Sadly, many of us, and those around us, struggle with our own sense of hopelessness that we miss the bud of new life reaching up from the hard earth under our feet.
Today, I am posting Sovrana si ne’ sembianti, from Laude!, in memory of my dear friend Chris Clark, for whom this world was such a hard place that he felt he had to find a new one –
– and for all of you, whom I urge to never lose hope so that you might find that beautiful rose emerging from the once-barren ground.
And one day, we will all make music together again as the roses bloom.
